If you're an avid listener and fan of some of our favorite global radio stations, you might have noticed some changes. RadioNICKI is transitioning to a new licensing system that will allow more people access to our broadcasts while ensuring we can keep broadcasting all day, every day. In order to transition smoothly from the old license system to the new one, we need your help! In this blog post I'm going to go over what's been happening on RadioNICKI with DJs, listeners and partners during the transition period, why the timing is right for switching licenses and what you need to do in preparation for this change. At the end of the post we'll also provide a link to our brand new contact page, to help you get in contact with us. So why now? Several years ago the license system we use was changed. Originally brought in as an international agreement called EBU HBB (Health and Safety) which was later changed to EBU R2 (Radio 2) under the EU ownCloud project and now has been switched over and is called EUDRADI. The intention behind these licenses is that they're for use for commercial broadcasters only, therefore we've had to be very selective about who we chose as our official license provider. As you may know, RadioNICKI is not your typical commercial broadcaster. We're a project run by volunteers with the goal of bringing the world closer together through music. Our team works day and night to keep our beloved broadcasters online and help them serve their listeners through their streams, social media and merchandise sales. Because of this it's taken us some time to find the correct license for us. It's important to us that we can give access to all people who would like to listen to RadioNICKI but at the same time not lose our identity as 'not-for-profit'. Finally after talking with several different license providers it seems that we have found what we are looking for in EUDRADI. Why is this the right time to switch licenses? It's important to us that we can provide our listeners with access to Radionicki 24/7, so we took the time to ask ourselves what might happen if we switched licenses. We realized that it wouldn't be possible for us to continue on the way we do now with so many people not being able to listen and at the same time still ensuring that we're able to continue on as we were before. As an example, if you wanted to listen in your car you'd need a license for your car and therefore most likely a license for both 'yourself' and 'radioNICKI'. Needless to say that would be very costly and time consuming for us to manage. With the new license, we can keep on broadcasting 24/7 without having to worry about all those extra licenses. And most importantly, everyone will be able to enjoy our streams on mobile or online wherever they may be! So what does this mean for you? The only thing you need to do is wait till the February 16th, when we'll go live with our brand new official RadioNICKI website. At this moment in time you'll be able to create your own personal account on the site which will provide you with access to our live streams through your browser or mobile device (iOS or Android). cfa1e77820
